Highlights:
New for 2008 we have three guaranteed departures for this non-walking trip to Armenia. The Best of Armenia visits the rich cultural heritage of a country on the crossroads of East and West. Using Yerevan as a base, we travel to ancient churches hewn out of rock, monasteries and we see some of the stunning landscapes for which Armenia is justly famous.



Itinerary:
Day 1 –2 Yerevan
Arrival in Yerevan, city tour.
Day 3 Etchmiazdin & the Vernissage
Visit the spiritual home of the Armenian church at Etchmiadzin, and wander through the Vernissage market in Yerevan.
Day 4 Haghpat
A day to visit the UNESCO World Heritage listed Haghpat monastic complex.
Day 5 Khor Virap and Noravank
We travel to the south of Armenia passing by Mount Ararat.
Day 6 Lake Sevan & Dilijan
Drive to 2,000 metre high Lake Sevan and see the old houses and verdant hills of Dilijan.
Day 7 Ashtarak & Hamberd Fortress
Visit the town of Ashtarak and the see the quirky home of Armenian film-maker Sergeyi Parajanov.
Day 8 Matenadaran & Geghard
See the 4th century church of Geghard, completely carved from solid rock, and also Matenadaran, the library of Armenia's ancient manuscripts.
Day 9 Depart
Depart for your flight home.
Grade
The tour includes only small amounts of walking when visiting churches, monasteries and sightseeing in Yerevan. It is suitable for anyone who is reasonably fit and can walk for up to one or two hours.
